Greek language lessons & activities
Learn Greek at Ikarian Centre. We offer Greek language lessons for non-native speakers on the island of Ikaria, also online. Our Greek language lessons are intended for – teachers of ancient or modern Greek, archaeologists and classicists, – interpreters, and translators, – as well as adults of any age who wish to begin to study Greek, or to improve their skills in Greek
Our lessons ARE NOT lecture – style, where the teacher translates the vocabulary and explains the grammatical structures. Various activities and language games motivate students to practice Greek and improve their skills fast and efficiently. The lessons’ texts as well as various activities after the lesson hours help our students also to enrich their knowledge about Greece and her people. Some of our Greek language lessons in Ikaria are also combined with seasonal agriculture activities, like the olive harvest.
The Greek language program of study is divided into 6 levels, according to the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). As a result, several classes are formed during each course, according to the students’ skills. Each class consists of 1 – 4 students of a similar level. The small class size ensures that every student will have the time to speak and practice new material in the class. It also helps us to adjust the material of classes to the individual needs and interests of each student. As a result, students dramatically improve their language skills during each hour of instruction. Why should I attend a Greek language course at Ikarian Centre?
Our instructors are experienced as teachers of Greek as a foreign language. We put emphasis on the development of listening and speaking skills. We also teach grammar and vocabulary with a comprehensive way New material (both in grammar and vocabulary) is mastered by students with the use of word games and verbal exercises written by us. Finally, our Greek language students will have the opportunity to discover some of the less well-known aspects of contemporary Greek life. This is possible due to songs, conversations, excursions, lectures, presentations and projects organized after class hours, during afternoons or evenings.
