What should I bring with me?

Closed-in shoes and long pants will help a lot. You can still walk with sandals and shorts, yet you might find it annoying to get scratched by the branches of the bushes. A hiking pole is not necessary, but it will help you a lot. Of course a hat, water and a food container for a snack, are also among the necessary equipment.

How difficult the rout is?

We will walk in a mountainous terrain, climbing or descending for the duration of the route. Some parts are extremely uphill or downhill. The trail passes through areas with low bushes and in most places the width is no larger than half a meter. The paths are NOT paved. There are stones, roots, from the trees and shrubs along the entire length of the route. You must be in a relatively good physical condition, have a good sense of balance, also NOT have SEVERE SERIOUS problems with vertigo and fear of heights.

About us

Ikarian Centre is a Greek language school for non-native speakers located in a rural area outside the mountains village of Arethousa. We offer Greek language lessons to non-native speakers on the island of Ikaria in the last 25 years. During all these years we do offer accommodation, hiking tours and cultural activities to our students. Recently we have decided to welcome any guest of the island who is interested to stay with us and participate in hiking and cultural activities. In addition the last years we try to contribute to the maintenance and improvement of the network of trails of the region, via volunteering camps and initiatives. Dialogos, a non-profit organization is established by the founder of Ikarian Centre to work on this filed. An online map that includes some trails of Arethousa, Ikaria is a part of our tinny contribution to this project, and you can find using the previous link
