Experiential Greek Language Course, August 2027

A 24/7 total immersion experience in the Greek language, with a strong focus on oral communication.

A comprehensive community stay experience in Ikaria, combining guesthouse accommodation with experiential Greek courses and indoor and outdoor activities like hiking – walking and cooking sessions. Our experiential Greek language courses are designed for those who want to practice their Greek in real-life settings: along Ikaria’s trails, at traditional dance lessons, and through the island’s famous festivals. Beyond daily interactions, two-hour daily conversation classes in small groups—with up to 4 students of the same level— focus on speaking and listening skills through guided language games and role-playing, moving away from traditional grammar instruction.

Who It Is For

For intermediate and advanced Greek learners who already have a baseline in grammar and wish to make Greek their sole language of communication throughout the week, both inside and outside the classroom.

Duration

Sunday to Sunday, August 22–29, 2027. Classes are organized for 2 hours every day, from Monday to Saturday, including Saturday.

A Typical Day

The morning is dedicated to classes and study. After lunch, the time is filled with outdoor activities alongside the teacher: hiking on the local trails, visits and conversations with locals, exploring the island’s beaches, and, of course, plenty of time by the sea. The day wraps up with a traditional dance lesson, dinner, and a Greek movie screening, or by joining one of the local traditional festivals.

The Classes

The lessons are delivered in the form of discussion-based classes. They last two hours each day and take place in small, homogeneous groups of up to 4 students per class. The focus is entirely on spoken communication through guided language games and role-playing, where mistakes are noted and corrected by the instructor. No grammar is explicitly taught during class time; however, guidelines and homework exercises are provided to study grammar at home wherever necessary.

Continuous contact with the teacher during activities and meals, interviews with locals, and participation in community events offer you the chance to completely submerge yourself in the Greek language. You will practice your skills 24/7 in entirely natural settings. At the same time, the structured discussion classes allow you to correct your mistakes, build effective communication strategies in Greek, and drastically improve your listening comprehension.

Can I bring a travel companion who is not participating in the course?

While non-participating travel companions are usually welcome at the Centre, this specific program is strictly designed for those who can and wish to practice their Greek 24/7. Additionally, availability is exceptionally limited. For these reasons, individuals who are not taking part in the course cannot be accepted into the group.

Accommodation

Staying at the Centre’s guesthouse is a prerequisite for enrollment and a vital part of this immersive learning experience. Cost and Registration

Cost: 1330€ / person / week

The cost covers your language classes, all course materials, participation in all scheduled activities, local transportation, and transfers from/to the airport or ports (available on Sundays). It also includes 2 simple daily meals (except on Thursdays and weekends).

Additionally, every student is provided with their own private room featuring an en-suite bathroom and a private kitchenette, which is fully included in the price.

What is not included: The cost of any meals taken outside the guesthouse is not covered. Please also note that we do not provide breakfast. However, students are welcome to prepare their own breakfast using their room’s private kitchenette or the Centre’s shared kitchen facilities.
