Active stay in Ikaria | Beyond the language courses

Hike, Walk & Connect with the locals

A short-term stay at our guesthouse without Greek language lessons, designed for those who want to experience more of Ikaria and connect with the locals: visiting diverse locations, hiking unique trails, swimming at remote beaches, and visiting local wineries and beekeepers—given that wine and honey are two of the island’s staple products.

Ikaria may seem small, but the island’s rugged terrain makes distances feel very long, even by car. A trip to a relatively nearby village can easily require an hour of driving. Consequently, during our scheduled Greek language course periods, there is simply not enough free time to truly explore the island or go on excursions and hikes to remote destinations. To solve this, we offer the opportunity to stay at the Centre’s guesthouse from Sunday to Wednesday following the conclusion of our language terms, on specific dates during spring and autumn. A stay during these days is combined with hikes, short excursions, and visits to local producers. This allows you to discover different parts of the island, and you will be astonished by the striking contrasts of the Ikarian landscape as you move from place to place, bringing you into closer contact with both the natural and human environment of the island.

If you are already participating in our language courses, you can easily extend your stay with us during these days. Alternatively, if you are not attending the language classes, you can simply book a room for this period. This gives you the chance to navigate routes that sit far away from those of the typical tourists who flood the island each year in search of the “authentic panigiri” or the “hidden secret to Ikarian longevity”.
