This specialized three-week intensive program (October 18 – November 8, 2026) is meticulously designed for advanced users of the Greek language, including translators, interpreters, and professionals seeking a deep and detailed knowledge of the language. The program runs from Monday to Saturday, 09:00 to 13:40 (with a 30-minute break), and goes beyond simple fluency, analyzing complex linguistic levels of style, such as the language of politicians and the press and the contemporary literary landscape. Daily morning seminars link morphology and syntax with high-demand practical simulations, such as formal interviews and public debates. Complementing this rigorous academic framework, the program incorporates afternoon activities from Tuesday to Friday (18:00 to 20:00), which include discussions about Ikaria, documentary screenings, and cultural workshops, designed to integrate the language into its authentic social context.

Duration: Three weeks, from Sunday October 18th (check-in) to Sun November 8th 2026 (check-out)
Students can register for 2 or 3 weeks, starting on October 18th.
Total Weekly Contact Hours: 25 hours (1500 min) + 8 Cultural Hours (480 min)
Cost: 810€/week (tuition fee) + 458,5/week (accommodation fee), 1268,5€ / week (total, including accommodation)
Accommodation is provided in private rooms with private toilet and kitchenette at Ikarian Centre guesthouse

  • Μondays – Saturdays: 09:00 – 13:40 ( 4 hours daily, Includes a 30-minute break)
  • Cultural Activities: Tuesday – Friday, 18:00 – 20:00 (Out-of-classroom immersion)

Curriculum Breakdown

Week 1: Linguistic Registers & Social Interaction

  • Focus: Navigating the spectrum between formal (episimo) and informal (oikeio) Greek.
  • Theory: Mastery of the subjunctive mood and passive voice in professional contexts; nuances of Greek etiquette.
  • Practice: Simulations of formal interviews vs. community debates.
  • Cultural Immersion (18:00–20:00): Guided village walks and orientation; introduction to local history and the Ikarian “slow-living” philosophy.

Week 2: The Rhetoric of Politics & Media

  • Focus: Analyzing the language of power, persuasion, and public discourse.
  • Theory: Identifying rhetorical strategies in political speeches; understanding socio-economic terminology and the use of connective particles in complex argumentation.
  • Practice: Drafting opinion pieces; analyzing newspaper editorials and televised debates.
  • Cultural Immersion (18:00–20:00): Discussions with local community members; screenings of Greek documentaries followed by moderated debate.

Week 3: Literary Landscapes & Creative Expression

  • Focus: Exploration of Modern Greek literature, poetry, and narrative style.
  • Theory: Analysis of 20th and 21st-century authors; studying metaphors, symbolism, and the influence of historical memory on the Greek language.
  • Practice: Creative writing workshops; oral presentations on selected literary excerpts.
  • Cultural Immersion (18:00–20:00): Traditional Greek dance workshops; cooking classes focusing on the Mediterranean diet; farewell communal dinner.

Learning Outcomes

By the conclusion of this 3-week intensive program, participants will be equipped to:

  1. Switch seamlessly between different linguistic registers depending on the social or professional environment.
  2. Critically analyze political rhetoric and media bias in a Greek-speaking context.
  3. Appreciate and interpret high-level literary works in their original form.
  4. Engage authentically with the local culture through intensive afternoon immersion activities.

Assessment

  • Continuous Oral Assessment: Daily evaluation of participation in debates, round-table discussions through role-playing exercises. We focus on the student’s ability to adjust their tone and vocabulary spontaneously.
  • Final Presentation: A 15-minute oral presentation on a chosen aspect of Greek culture or politics.
