I have learned other languages at other schools, but so far I had only tried to learn Greek on my own. I very much recommend spending a few weeks here wherever you are on your Greek journey. Having personal attention and solid grammar classes were a huge help to me.

The rooms have everything you need and are closer to one room apartments than a hostel room, you can cook, there are optional activities most nights, and Mihalis runs the school with obvious care for his students, and a deep connection to the island and the Ikarian people.
I see now that my first messages to Mihali were in 2013 about coming here! I am glad that I finally was able to και θα επιστρέψω

Fantastic experience, highly recommended! Ikaria is uniquely peaceful and absolutely gorgeous. The lessons were focused and intense & the teaching style worked perfectly for the diversity of students there. You’ll learn about the culture, the history and the arts and will get to visit some of the best the island has to offer. The accommodations were comfortable and practical & have everything you need for a long stay. Absolutely coming back for more!

È stata un esperienza molto interessante. Il posto è molto bello . Grazie alle lezioni di Mihalis ho iniziato a comprendere e parlare il greco, tutto questo in un atmosfera molto piacevole. Oltre alle lezioni, abbiamo fatto delle interessanti escursioni e Mihalis ci ha parlato della storia di Ikaria e delle sue tradizioni. Un ringraziamento a tutti gli altri studenti con cui ho passato due belle settimane.

I have been visiting the Greek islands for many years but, apart from the usual courtesies and greetings I understood little of the Greek language. I finally was able to attend a 2 week course with Mihalis at the Ikarian Centre in June this year and it was a wonderful experience. Ikaria is a beautiful, quiet, friendly island and the Centre is situated on a hillside overlooking the coastal village of Karavostamo. The accommodation is quiet and comfortable and most rooms have a spectacular view.
I had tried to prepare for the course by learning the Greek alphabet but was a little apprehensive as it is so different from any language I have studied before. Our teachers were Mihalis and Theano who are both very experienced and patient teachers who made the learning experience a real pleasure. Most days consisted of a two hour lesson followed by homework and there was always time for visit to the nearby beaches for an afternoon swim.
The evenings were spent either visiting a local taverna or cooking at the centre and Mihalis arranged many cultural excursions around the island when we were driven and guided by the lovely Natasha. A favourite was a visit to organic vineyards, the mountain village of Raches and the beautiful fishing village of Maganitis.
I would thoroughly recommend the Ikarian Centre to anyone who loves Greece and the Greek people. The course has certainly given me a greater appreciation of Greek culture and I plan to return next Easter to take another course. Thank you Mihalis, Theano and Natasha. See you all again soon 🙂
